A perfect sharpening for a beginner

Marc Brackett

I absolutely love skating of all types. Nothing compares to freedom on blades or wheels. I did enjoy ballroom dancing for the last 7 or 8 years but it's not the same. I try to skate three times a week with a few clubs at the moment, chasing ice time. If I had to pick, I think I like my dance setup the most, not only because I trip on the heel less but I'm having fun learning and hoping to finish up my Junior Bronze dances in 2026.

While most of my hours are are figure skates currently, I do skate hockey skates, dabbling with some freestyle moves without groundwork. Multiple times a week in the summer and occasionally throughout the year I can be found on wheels. Artistic inline and quad skating hasn't caught on here as much as other areas of the world, but I'm hoping that changes as it provides variety and opens more training time.

Forever an experimenter, I won't shy away from pushing the envelope. If there's something you'd like to try I'll build that setup and try it myself first. I would appreciate an opportunity to get you on the best sharpening for you.

Outside of sharpening and maintaining skates, I work full time, volunteer with a community service organization and at skating competitions, and always have family events or house renos going to do.
